The goal is a series of 25 portraits that highlight the nuances of “life at home”, inspired by Ikea’s annual Life at home report. The survey, which includes over 37,000 people in 37 countries, reveals, among other things, that close to half of the respondents (48 percent) do not feel that life at home is reflected in the media.
Leibovitz is known for her ability to capture the inner life of her subjects with whom she interacts in intimate spaces or moments, which Ikea says makes her ideal for the assignment.
“The home has always been important in my work. I’ve been photographing people in their homes since I started working. It’s a way to understand who a person is,” says Annie Leibovitz in a press release from the furniture giant.
During the assignment as Ikea’s “Artist in residence”, Leibovitz will travel to Japan, USA, Germany, Italy, India, England and Sweden to portray how people live today.
