BUNSCHOTEN-SPAKENBURG – IJsselmeervogels has lost the relegation cracker in the second division against Kozak Boys. At the Zwaaier in Werkendam, the Rooien conceded a late goal and lost 2-1. As a result, IJsselmeervogels drops to penultimate place.

After an even first half hour, Kozak Boys took the lead after a mistake by goalkeeper Julian Prinsen. The replacement for the injured Jaimy Schaap let the ball slip through his hands after which Leon Bot made the 1-0.

During the first half, Kozak Boys had opportunities to double the score, but the halftime score in Werkendam was 1-0.

After the break, a sloppy playing IJsselmeervogels took the initiative. After Danny van den Meiracker and Steven Sánchez Angulo had missed opportunities, the Vogels scored in the 64th minute. Mitch Willems tapped in a corner from Pieter Langedijk.

Shortly afterwards, Tarik Fahrach was close to making it 2-1 for the home side, but the attacker missed. In extra time, Langedijk was close to 2-1 for IJsselmeervogels, but Johnny Lommers made the home team’s winner from the counter.

‘1-1 would have been a good result’

“You think we are going to make him and then he falls from the counter punch,” says attacker Pieter Langedijk. “That also happened to us against Quick Boys. We have to take that counter out through a violation and be satisfied with a 1-1.”

Trainer Gert Peter de Gunst was also satisfied with a draw. “I’m not going to say that we should have won here, but I don’t think the victory of Kozak Boys is deserved either.”

The Vogels are now penultimate in the second division. “You shouldn’t look too much at the rankings yet,” says De Gunst. “If you look at the time of year, you think there are only ten games left, but we are not halfway there yet.”
