Iivo Niskanen finally got an intact freestyle skiing competition – shook his direct opinion about distance skiing in the World Championships

Iivo Niskanen finally got an intact freestyle skiing competition

Iivo Niskanen admitted that the nerve problem in his leg requires active work from him. Niskanen also stated that his speed is not enough to fight for the top in free.

Relays will be skied in Toblach on Sunday. Women’s relay on channels at 12:00 Alken and men’s relay from 13:55.

Iivo Niskanen got to ski an intact freestyle competition after a long time, when he finished 12th in the Toblach 10 km race. A week ago in Les Rousses, he crashed on the downhill and flew into the advertising fences. In the same accident, Niskanen also injured his leg.

– Maybe it wasn’t all right last weekend. In itself, it’s okay that I could ski, and the race came on the upswing. Sharpness is still lacking, but there is endurance, Niskanen reflected after the race.

Niskanen already stated on Friday that last weekend’s crash is still bothering him. He has had nerve problems in his legs, which he has to actively work on.

– Yes, you can remind it that you will come back to life from there. So that it doesn’t leak through the butt all the time. But it has clearly gotten better, which it was this week.

Niskanen admitted that he went into Saturday’s race cautiously. At the beginning, he struggled enough to be able to ski France, who started later by Hugo Lapalus with the same trip. In the end, Niskanen himself started to pick up the pace to the end, but because of the trigger’s platform, he felt that the going was not balanced.

– I do not know. Free, it’s just not enough, he stated and estimated a possible World Cup start for 15 kilometers.

– Probably not with this one…

Are you interested?

– Incorrect. After all, winning is what interests you, and on this trip it might not be possible.

In Sunday’s relay, Niskanen thinks it will be interesting to see what kind of speed he can hit. He expects to be able to hit the 7.5 kilometer distance hard.

– Gets a little sharpness, and it doesn’t hurt even if it breaks at the end. When such shorter bets come, the man gets to wake up for this season and then wait for Planica after that.

Hyvärinen was more excited than ever

Perttu Hyvärinen was the fastest Finn in Saturday’s men’s freestyle skiing race, when he finished one place better than Niskanen. Hyvärinen admitted that he has never been as excited as he was before this race.

– It must have been when there was an afternoon race. I had time to collect a little more thoughts. I need excitement and a good amount of pressure, then it will be fine. I knew I was in good shape and I could have a chance to ski good places, Hyvärinen said.

– It was quite a good place, but it only makes you hungry when you eat.

Hyvärinen didn’t have a proper traction help in the race with an intermediate start and he said he heard some intermediate times. He focused more on the “barn” with his tongue under his belt.

– Amazingly, it wasn’t even able to split the pace today. A little slow at the start, but pretty soon I started skiing hard. At least I was tight enough when we started the last lap.

In Sunday’s message, Hyvärinen planned to make the most of himself and fight with the team for a good position. The message also serves as a good general for the World Championships, but Hyvärinen takes a relaxed approach to this.

– It doesn’t matter if we win tomorrow, we won’t take any pressure from it to the World Cup. My mind is calm and so can everyone else. Don’t put too much pressure, Hyvärinen said and grinned widely.
