Iivo Niskanen didn’t show up at the starting line in Olos on Sunday for the 10 km freestyle skiing competition. Even on Saturday, Niskanen was leaving for the competition.
– Let’s try to get out of bed. If the cold doesn’t get too bad, we’ll go skiing, Niskanen told ISTV.
Next, in an interview with , Niskanen also described how it would be interesting to see the progress of freestyle skiing. Niskanen described that he prepared for the season more in a traditional way of skiing, but for the World Cup season he had to get a feel for it.
Pakkanen might be one of Niskanen’s withdrawals. It was 15 degrees below zero in Olos on Sunday.
On Saturday, Iivo Niskanen took an overwhelming victory in ten kilometers of traditional skiing.
Head coach of the Finnish national skiing team Teemu Pasanen glowed even after Sunday’s race for Niskanen’s show of strength.
– It was hard skiing from Iivo. He showed that he is in good shape. It looks good towards the start of the World Cup season and Ruka, Pasanen set his sights on two weeks from now.
Sunday’s race was won by Germany Friedrich Moch. The best Finn was sixth Perttu Hyvärinen. He was 13.4 seconds behind Mochi.
– I expected that I would have been a little better at that end, but it’s still a bit sticky. It’s okay, Hyvärinen thinks.
Hyvärinen said that he has invested more in free training than traditional training.
– It’s a little scary what Ruka will face in her twenties.
However, Hyvärinen believes that the speed will be found when he gets less than a few races. According to Hyvärinen, he is usually not in a good pace from the beginning of the season anyway.

German winner Moch described the race as really tough. He has been training in Olos for a couple of weeks now. Moch praised the conditions in Muonio.
– I like this track. This year has been really good. There has been a lot of snow. Perfect conditions, Moch stated.
