As Urheilu reported about a week ago, the Slovenian Igor Medved is the new head coach of the Finnish men’s ski jumping national team.

Medved and the leader of ski jumping Mika Kojonkoski confirm to Urheilu that the 1+1-year employment contract has been signed and its start date is today. Medved is currently on his way to Kuopio. He follows in the wash Lauri Hakola.

Due to the ski association’s difficult financial situation, Medved’s salary will be fully financed by the Olympic Committee’s elite sports enhancement support until October 31. Kojonkoski confirms the arrangement.

For 42-year-old Medved, the head coaching position is the first abroad. He has been the head coach of the Slovenian B national team since 2011.

Medved is the second foreign head coach in Finnish ski jumping history. The previous one was Austrian Andreas Mitterwho piloted mountain men from 2016 to 2018.
