Now “Svennis” is being celebrated by the club in the most heartwarming way.
“Blåvitt” will name a stand after the coaching legend.
It was at the beginning of January that Sven-Göran Eriksson announced that he is seriously ill with cancer. At best, he has at most a year left to live.

Since then, “Svennis” has been praised by the entire football world and showered with warm words and greetings. Recently it was announced that the Swedish coaching icon will also have his dream fulfilled to lead the favorite team Liverpool in an exhibition match shortly.

Now comes the next big tribute to Eriksson. IFK Gothenburg announces today that their old successful coach will receive the most beautiful tribute.

Sven-Göran Eriksson had his big breakthrough as a coach in “Blåvitt” and won SM gold, cup gold and also the Uefa Cup during a heyday in Swedish football. After that, the career continued in Europe and to a whole bunch of big clubs.

Now IFK will pay tribute to Svennis with a very own match and a stand of its own at Gamla Ullevi. On April 20, the 76-year-old will be celebrated during the match against IFK Norrköping and the “Svennis stand” will also be inaugurated.
– It feels fantastic. I am moved when I hear all this and I am grateful. I hope that I will be able to be there, says Sven-Göran to IFK Gothenburg’s official website.

IFK Göteborg is very proud to be able to immortalize its coaching icon in the home arena.
“The new Svennisläktaren has the nicest seats in the arena and, with its central location, the best view of Gamla Ullevi and the pitch. Perfect for those who – just like Svennis – want to have full control of the game down on the grass,” the club writes in a press release.
