EARLY WAKE UP ARE MORE ACTIVE AND HEALTHY

Night owls were found to be less active during the day, which means they have a higher risk of developing Type 2 diabetes. Those who wake up late in the morning because they go to bed late become less sensitive to insulin. Meanwhile, early risers were found to burn fat rather than carbohydrates for energy, thus reducing their risk of many diseases, and being more active and aerobically fit during the day.

US scientists at Rutgers University in New Jersey tracked the daily activity patterns of the two groups. They also evaluated body mass, composition, insulin sensitivity, and fat and carbohydrate metabolism through breath samples. Professor Steven Malin said: ‚ÄúThis advances our understanding of how our body’s circadian rhythms affect our health. “More research is needed to examine the link between chronotype, exercise, and metabolic adaptation to determine whether exercising earlier in the day has more health benefits.”
