In Fortnite, the silly dances and the sometimes childish emotes are to a certain extent part of everyday life – similar to the many colorful skins and collaborations. Now, however, Epic Games has released an update that will affect whether your opponents can even see your taunting emotes.
What is this new attitude? Fortnite has a new setting called “Show Confrontational Emotes” as of April 22, 2024.
With this new setting you can decide for yourself whether you want to see certain emotes. Only emotes that can be used in a confrontational way are affected. That means: Emotes with which you can, for example, humiliate defeated opponents, i.e. make fun of them.
If you enable the setting, a player who performs one of the affected emotes will simply remain still. No movement will then be carried out and no emote sound will be played.
By default, the new setting is set so that you can only see these emotes from friends in your group. You can also display these emotes from all players or choose not to see them at all.
How is the setting activated? You can find the option to turn off confrontational emotes in Settings under Account & Privacy and then Social Privacy. It’s called Show Confrontational Emotes.
Then you choose between “from everyone”, “from friends in the group” and “never”.
New setting affects 4 emotes – including one OG
Which emotes are affected? So far only four emotes are affected by the new setting:
If an enemy you just finished using the new setting, you will no longer be able to humiliate them with these four emotes. You’ll probably have to go back to classic tea bagging.
How does the community react? Mixed. Of course, there are players who think it’s a shame that they can no longer mockingly present their superiority and say that Epic is going soft. However, other players are happy to no longer have to hear the donkey laugh of “full of laughter”.
But some players are also wondering what Epic Games expected, what emotes like “Laugh out loud” and “Defeats happen” would be used for.
“Defeats happen” is a real OG emote in Fortnite and has been in the game since February 2018. The emote appeared with the Season 3 Battle Pass, which you could buy for 950 V-Bucks. That’s the equivalent of around €8.54, as a new tool from the Sparkasse allows us to easily convert:
