In Baldur’s Gate 3 you can surround yourself with many different companions and summoned companions. In addition to talking brains and flaming elementals, there are also zombies.
What kind of companions are we talking about? The companions we are writing about here are the Ancient Servants. These are basically pretty powerful zombies that fight alongside you. This is what the stats look like:
The Ancient Servants also have darkvision up to 12 meters and can dish out pretty well:
Her multi-attack can only be used against frightened enemies, but it does between 5 and 12 points of slashing damage and between 3 and 18 additional necrotic damage. In total there is always at least 5 damage points, in the best case scenario it can even be 33 – and that’s twice as much due to the multi-attack.
The standard Rotting Fist attack, on the other hand, does the same damage, but easily. In addition, the Mummy Rot condition can be triggered, which reduces the maximum health points to 8 and prevents healing.
You can also use Hell’s Blinding to frighten opponents – which is the prerequisite for the multi-attack described above.
What are the requirements for the companion? To summon the mummy, you can be one of three classes at level 11:
Choose the level 6 spell Create Undead. If you are not in one of the three classes, you can also use a ring to cast the same spell, the Crypt Lord Ring.
How do you get the ring? The Crypt Lord Ring is the reward for completing a quest series in Act 3. You start it by gaining access to Philgrave’s estate.
You can make yourself smaller and enter through a hole in the wall. Alternatively, you can examine a suspicious wall and open it – the magic knock, a successful Arcana check or brute force can help here. On the roof of the house you will also find an entrance where you just have to pick the lock.
In the house you meet an NPC who tells you to kill one of his missing servants. Said servant is Thrumbo, an undead. He is hiding in a house near the Cluster Beach waypoint. You will find a trail of blood in front of a cupboard – follow it and loot the cupboard. Thrumbo will jump towards you.
Without giving much away: If you want to get the ring, you have to take Thrumbo’s side and help him through the quest alive. Then he gives you the ring.
Have you already summoned an undead to your side? Or do you have a completely different companion who is always at your side? Write it to us in the comments.
Editor-in-chief Leya Jankowski, on the other hand, doesn’t like the undead. She’s currently lamenting about her character’s relationship with a soulless lover, which didn’t come true: After 300 hours of Baldur’s Gate 3, I’m very disappointed
