Here is a warning to which men are likely to be particularly receptive. In addition to promoting obesity and the appearance of cavities, excessive consumption of sugary drinks could also facilitate the occurrence of… baldness! In any case, this is what a recent study carried out in China confirms.

    Baldness: a male anxiety

We watch for it from the twentieth year of existence. Each loss of wick becomes a fear and some do not hesitate to draw the cap as a preventive measure. You guessed it: it is baldness in question! This capillary phenomenon, also called androgenetic alopecia, mainly affects men.

Generally hereditary, it can also be linked to stress and/or an unhealthy lifestyle. Some men fear it so much that hairdressers are having a blast developing a flourishing business of hair implants. But before leaving your savings there, you can perhaps start by adopting a healthy gesture: curbing the consumption of sodas.

The abuse of sodas promotes hair loss

A recent study carried out in China by researchers from Tsinghua University in Beijing (China) and published in Nutrients magazine end of 2022 indeed highlights a potential link between excessive consumption of sugary drinks and the early onset of baldness. More specifically, the latter found that people who drink several sugary drinks (including sodas, as well as fruit juices and industrial iced teas) per week are more at risk of losing their hair.

To reach these conclusions, the study authors recruited 1951 participants between the ages of 18 and 45 (only 1082 people were retained in the final analysis). They answered questions about their eating habits and their hair health. “Emphasizing that the consumption of sugary drinks could have a negative effect on appearance could attract the attention of the young population and encourage a reduction in consumption“, hope the authors of the work.

To reduce your risk of baldness, take care of your diet

The small size of the study sample and the lack of research devoted to this specific subject, however, do not yet confirm the existence of a link between regular consumption of sodas and a risk of early baldness. For those to whom the possible occurrence of baldness gives white hair, know that there are natural solutions to preserve its hair mass. For example, you can eat more broccoli and cauliflower. These foods contain sulforaphane, an organic compound known to curb hair loss.
