Missing Downton Abbey? You can watch this captivating and highly successful historical series online.

Historical intrigues, class conflicts, romances… By recounting the social changes of 20th century England through the story of an aristocratic house, Downton Abbey was a critical and popular success during its run from 2010 to 2015. If you’re missing this kind of series, why not take advantage of the summer break to catch up on another very similar and equally high-quality program?

Created by Julian Fellowes (already at work on… Downton Abbey), The Gilded Age is another historical series, but it has a different setting and time period: New York in the 1880s. The concept is similar to the British series: the plot focuses on the conflict between different wealthy families living on the same street in the Big Apple: the nouveaux riches who made their fortune in commerce and are trying to integrate into high society, and the aristocrats for whom lineage and heritage are more important.

The Gilded Age is a superb costume series that deals with social issues (the place of women, racialized people, class conflicts, etc.) through this fresco of characters with plots that have soap opera overtones. The cast includes regulars from television series (Carrie Coon from The LeftoversTaissa Farmiga of American Horror StoryCynthia Nixon of Sex and the City, Christine Baranski from The Good Fight…) but also some lesser-known faces, like Denée Benton or Louisa Jacobson, who is none other than Meryl Streep’s daughter.

If you want to discover the New York adventures of these millionaire families, you can discover both seasons on the Max streaming platform. Given the success of the series, a third season is currently in preparation and will be available in a few months.
