Hair loss problem affects many people negatively. Including genetic structure; Factors such as malnutrition, excessive dyeing and stress are among the factors that trigger hair loss. You can prevent hair loss by making some changes in both your diet and your hair care routine. But Dermatology Specialist Dr. Lecturer Member Necla Eryılmaz warned that zoophilic fungal infections have become more common in recent years.
IT CAN CAUSE PERMANENT HAIR LOSS!
“The reason we see an increase in zoophilic fungi is our little friends that we feed at home. “The source of this fungus is domestic animals and especially cats,” said the expert and continued his explanation as follows:
“Since children are very involved with pets, it is much more common in this age group.”
Necla Eryılmaz emphasized that although this type of fungus is mostly seen on the skin, it becomes difficult to treat it when it infects the scalp, and said, “When treatment is delayed, it may cause permanent hair loss. Diagnosis is often delayed because patients do not initially pay much attention to the skin rash. When we make a diagnosis, we want the animal to be treated immediately. The treatment period can be very long. If the hair area is affected and delayed, it may lead to permanent hair loss. Unfortunately, we have children who undergo hair transplantation due to permanent hair loss in untreated patients. “When it is noticed too late, there may be irreversible losses,” he said.
“WE FACE THESE CASES OFTEN”
The expert stated that this fungus is especially prevalent in cats and warned:
“This fungus, transmitted from pets, is mostly seen in cats. It is especially common in people who keep cats at home. It is necessary to consult a doctor early in case of dandruff rashes that do not go away on the skin and grow towards the surrounding area. We often encounter these cases even if cats are vaccinated. We should not think that my cat is vaccinated anyway, we should see a specialist immediately at the slightest symptom. Since it is more common in cats, patients sometimes come to us saying they have cat fungus. We love this term too, even though we don’t like mushrooms. Parents must be conscious and have their pets groomed regularly. “If they see any changes in their pet’s hair, they should consult a veterinarian. If children experience skin rash, especially dandruff on the scalp, or hair breakage or loss, they should immediately consult a specialist physician.”
