If you don’t find bad opponents, you are the bad opponents

If you feel like you never see a bad player in XDefiant, then the shooter’s boss has a clear opinion about you.

Who is the person you are talking about?

  • Mark Rubin is an executive producer at Ubisoft and the head of XDefiant. On x.com he is extremely communicative and provides a lot of background information about the game.
  • Before joining Ubisoft, Rubin worked at Infinity Ward on Call of Duty, where he was involved in the development of the original Modern Warfare games (2007, 2009, 2001), among others.
  • What does the boss think? Content creator and shooter expert “TheXclusiveAce” commented on x.com on the discussion that the matches in XDefiant are too sweaty and there are no easy matches.

For example, TheXclusiveAce reports that he sees comments under videos on XDefiant asking how he gets “lobbies with such easy opponents.” In his post, he writes: “In a game with SBMM, if you literally never find an easy opponent, that’s a sign that you have a lot of room for improvement.”

Mark Rubin shared the statement with a simple “That!” and agrees with the content creator’s statement. “Lots of room for improvement” is a nice way of saying: If you can’t find easy opponents, you’re the easy opponent.

What is meant by the statement? XDefiant is characterized by the fact that it has modes without skill-based matchmaking (SBMM for short), meaning that the lobbies are not put together based on your skills. SBMM ensures that players always play with and against other players of the same skill level. This means that weaker players do not have to compete against good players.

XDefiant only has SBMM in Ranked mode and the Welcome playlist. In the other modes or the custom playlist, you can meet players of any skill level. This includes extremely good players, but also very bad ones.

So in XDefiant you will inevitably play against players who are worse than you at some point – unless you are really at the bottom of the average skill level of all players. Then it will seem to you as if there are only matches against good or at least better players.

If you are one of the weaker players, we recommend that you play the welcome playlist or even ranked in the future if you don’t want to meet much better players.

Matches against players of a high skill level can be frustrating, but they have one clear advantage: you can learn a lot from them. What weapons or skills do they use? What is their movement in gunfights? What paths do they take when they rotate around the map?

You can really learn a lot for your own game in such defeats. And even if you can’t boast of great statistics and great clips, XDefiant at least has a kind of participation certificate ready for you at the end of the match: XDefiant rewards players with a certificate who have not achieved anything
