If you don’t choose Crokel as a starter in Pokémon Crimson and Crimson, you don’t have a soul

Last minute The world stood up after Putins decision in

Pokémon Crimson and Crimson (Nintendo Switch) were released about a week ago. MeinMMO Editor-in-Chief Leya Jankowski has thrown herself into the adventure and is sure that there is only one real choice for the starter: the foolish Krokel.

If you’ve played any of Pokémon’s mainline titles, you know how busy the choice of starter can be months before release. Starters are the Pokémon with which you begin your journey.

All Pokemaniacs have a special relationship with the first starter Pokemon they ever chose. For each new generation, the choice of the first Pokémon remains something special.

For the 9th generation of crimson and purple there are again traditionally three starters to choose from:

  • Kwaks (water)
  • Felori (plant)
  • Krokel (Fire)
  • Kwaks, Felori and Krokel.

Most of the time I have a clear favorite just by looking at the starters, but this time it was difficult for me to choose. For weeks I’ve been thinking back and forth about which starter it should be this time.

Actually, I stuck with Felori because a grass cat is basically cool. But then this look came…

With Crimson and Crimson, Pokémon is just one step away from the MMO

Krokel would be the least able to cope with not being elected

When given the choice of which of the three Pokémon to choose, you take them for a short walk in Crimson and Crimson.

After that comes a scene where you learn a bit more about the personalities of the Pokémon. Kwaks sits in a pool as a water duck, splashes around and blows his cute quiff in the wind. One feels a certain vanity.

The grass cat Felori leisurely sniffs flowers and the wind blows through her whiskers. She seems to have a cool head.

And Krokel? It runs towards an apple and sneezes, accidentally shooting fire through its nose. The apple is burned. Yes, he’s supposed to be the little dummy of the group and it works too well.

Not much happens behind Krokel’s eyes.

But I wasn’t broken here. What really got to me was Krokel’s goofy look when the three Pokémon stood in front of you and they looked at you!

In my head cinema it was clear that Krokel would never understand why I couldn’t go on an adventure. It would just be left confused and wondering what it did wrong.

Felori and Kwaks are calm about the election. Krokel looks at you from below like a little puppy and is full of emotion and hope. There is no room behind his eyes for more.

I sighed and spontaneously changed my mind: Krokel became my permanent companion instead of Felori.

Apparently I was also lucky to choose a starter with my highly professional strategy. Krokel is now considered the “strongest” starter because it’s a little easier to get through the game with him.

If you’ve just caught Pokemon fever like I did, which starter did you get and why? Were you able to escape the spell of Krokel’s puppy eyes?
