Although gas removal is disturbing, it is one of the indispensable actions of the body for healthy functioning. Healthy people tend to pass gas about 14 times a day. However, this does not always happen properly. Gas removal, which is a normal part of the daily functioning of the digestive system, causes discomfort when not done properly.
HOW DOES THE GAS EXTRACTION PROCESS OCCUR?
Gas forms when bacteria living in the large intestine break down certain foods. E.g; Carbs take longer to break down and often reach the large intestine without being fully digested. They can then go through a fermentation process that produces air bubbles and comes out as gas.
Swallowing air can also cause bloating as it enters the digestive tract and has trouble passing easily as usual. Conditions such as food intolerances and lactose intolerances can also cause gas problems.
Usually this resolves without any treatment, but there are a few methods you can try to relieve any symptoms.
TAKE A PROBIOTIC
Probiotics can help reduce gas and relieve stomach ailments caused by excess gas. Although not all probiotics have the same effect on everyone, it is an undeniable fact that they are beneficial.
TO EXERCISE
Exercise has been proven to reduce the feeling of bloating. When you move, your intestines help you to get rid of gas faster through the digestive system. Lying on your back and raising your legs, cycling and walking after meals accelerate the gas removal process. In addition, some yoga positions and squatting positions will also help your digestive system during the gas removal process.
MINT OIL
Some studies have revealed that peppermint oil can relieve constipation, bloating, and excessive gas. This is because peppermint has antispasmodic properties. A study published in 2014 found that those who took peppermint oil saw real improvement in their stomach pain. You can drink it an hour before a meal or speed up the process by drinking mint tea after your meal.
KEEPING WARM
You can use a hot water pad to overcome stomach pain caused by gas. Keeping that area warm helps open up your body’s heat receptors, which turn off the pain receptors.
SPICES
Experts recommend using herbs and spices to combat inflammation and swelling. Spices such as cardamom, cumin, fennel, ginger, turmeric and cinnamon help the gas removal process and reduce stomach pains caused by inability to pass gas. You can add these spices to foods or consume them as herbal tea.
