Oral cancers include cancers that occur inside the mouth, usually the lower lip, behind the larynx, tonsils or salivary glands. In order to be protected from the harmful effects of oral cancers, which have fatal results, it is necessary to be conscious of their symptoms.
ORAL CANCER SYMPTOMS
PELTEK OR MOLD VOICE
Changes in speech and even lisp can be signs of oral cancer. According to Cancer Research UK, if the cancer is near the back of your throat, your voice may be hoarse or lower, and it may sound like you have a bit of a cold. A hoarse voice can be a sign of hypopharyngeal cancer that affects the back of the throat and potentially the vocal cords. Swelling in your mouth caused by cancer can also make you limp and make it hard to say certain words or make you scribble on some.
IT CAN AFFECT TALK
“If the cancer is further back in your mouth and affects your throat, you can change your voice,” Coates said. “If you have cancerous cells in your tongue or are close to the cancer site, it can also affect speech.” But a change in your voice could be a sign of something less serious like a cold, laryngitis or even acid reflux.
Failing to get the tongue out
Not being able to stick your tongue out properly is one of the more bizarre symptoms of the disease. According to Coates, if the cancerous lumps are on or near the tongue, oral cancer can become limp and restrict movement. It is more common in some types of oral cancer, such as cancer of the tongue, soft palate, or lip. It is also associated with squamous cell carcinoma. According to Cancer Research, this is cancer of the flat, skin-like cells that line the inner surface of the mouth, nose, larynx, thyroid, and throat.
PERMANENT NUMBING AND EAR PAIN
Ear pain, numbness, or stiffness of the jaw can be caused by a nerve or a tumor that sits on a bone. “Both ear pain and numbness in the mouth will depend on where the tumor is, as it can affect nerves,” Coates said. Another factor could be the size of the tumor in how much it will affect the rest of your mouth. ‘Tumors can affect bones, tissues, organs and the glands that surround them.’
Odd FEELING IN YOUR MOUTH AND JIN
A strange feeling in your mouth or jaw, a rough patch or numbness on the lip or tongue may be a sign that you should visit your dentist or GP. But ear pain and numbness is not just a sign of cancer, it can also be caused by a headache or earache.
