Erectile dysfunction is among the sexual health problems experienced by many men, even if it is not shared. Factors that cause erectile dysfunction include stress, unhealthy living habits, side effects of medications, and age. According to studies, molds that increase in the winter months can also cause erectile dysfunction and testicular shrinkage.
MAY CAUSE LOW TESTOSTERONE
Certain types of mold that thrive on water-damaged buildings, furniture and flooring have been shown to have estrogen-like properties that can reduce testosterone, experts said. While normal amounts of mold are unlikely to have an effect, excess mold in the home can cause hormonal chaos. Expert Abbas Kanani said: “Low testosterone levels can cause erectile dysfunction in men. This can also affect testicular size, as well as cause shedding of armpit and pubic hair and low or zero sperm count.”
IT ALSO AFFECTS WOMEN
For women, weight gain, low libido, and mood swings are all triggered by low testosterone levels. Hormonal changes put extra pressure on the adrenal glands, causing a spike in cortisol levels, which can affect the way people sleep and deal with stress.
Some studies have found that high cortisol levels over a long period of time can lead to a lack of sex drive, muscle weakness, and cause menstrual cycles to become irregular, become less frequent, or stop altogether.
