If Apple’s multimedia software iTunes has not been present on Macs for a long time, it is still at work in Windows. But not for much longer since three new apps are eating into its functions.

Apple has just driven another nail into iTunes’ coffin. The flagship software introduced with iPods but which, over time, had become a real gas factory, deserted Macs a few years ago. To replace it, Apple Music and Apple TV are taking care of the maneuver. On Windows, it’s a different story. iTunes is still there to manage music, podcasts, Apple devices, etc. But not for much longer. After a one-year test phase, the Cupertino company has deployed three new apps within the Microsoft Store: Apple Music, Apple TV And Apple devices. Revised design, clarity and simplicity, users will not be disappointed with this welcome change which strips the old-fashioned iTunes of its flagship functions. The three apps are already available for free download and are placed alongside the application iCloud for Windows, also updated with a serious facelift which makes it much more pleasant to use.

However, can we completely get rid of iTunes on PC? Alas, not yet! If Apple Music and Apple TV are responsible for playing music and video content, iTunes remains in charge for podcasts and audiobooks.

Also, if you regularly use this type of content, it is better to keep it. However, be aware that iTunes will no longer be able to access music and will also not be able to manage Apple devices (iPhone and iPad) that you may connect to your PC. Moreover, Apple recommends installing its three new applications now. Apple Music, Apple TV and Apple Devices are designed to work with Windows 10 and Windows 11. For previous versions of Microsoft’s system, the indestructible iTunes will continue to work. We don’t yet know for how long.
