Idol winners make a comeback – in Melodifestivalen

Jay Smith will be in next year’s competition, with a contribution written, among others, by his sister Maria Smith, according to Aftonbladet’s information. She is usually one of the members of the pop duo Smith & Thell.

Jay Smith, 42, made headlines on Idol 2010 when, en route to victory in TV4’s competition, he struck up a romance with fellow finalist Minnah Karlsson. It was also revealed that he failed a drug test, but that despite this, TV4 let him stay in the competition.

Since the victory in “Idol”, Jay Smith has continued his music career, but out of the limelight. He has released several solo albums and also played with several rock bands, including Von Benzo and Smash Into Pieces.

In recent years, however, it has become music in a different genre – country – since he realized that he no longer listened to rock as much.

“In the end, I felt that I either continue with music and change genres or I had to stop altogether,” he said in an interview with Helsingborgs Dagblad three years ago.

Melodifestivalen’s tour begins on February 3 in Malmö. The entire starting field will be presented on December 1. Until then, SVT does not confirm any media information about current artists.
