Icy and more snow cause it in the traffic

Several cars collided with each other on the E4 due to slippery road conditions – causing long queues.
At the same time, SMHI warns that snow and ice can cause problems in traffic.
– There is an ice road in several directions, says meteorologist Therese Fougman.

Slippery roads and chilly weather make it difficult for traffic on Friday. During the morning, a mass collision occurred on the E4 outside Norrköping. Three lorries and two cars were involved – which has led to traffic jams and long queues.

At 11 a.m. police were still working at the scene. It is unclear if anyone was injured in the collision.

At the same time, SMHI warns of continued problems in traffic. Above all, it is the most north-eastern parts of Götaland and parts of Svealand that are affected by rain and snow.

– It’s ice street in several directions. It’s worth paying attention to when you go out, says Therese Fougman, meteorologist at SMHI.

The reason for the ice streets is precisely the area of precipitation. In northernmost Götaland and in southeastern Svealand, SMHI has issued a warning for icy conditions.

– It is rain that is subcooled and falls on cold ground that creates a lot of problems, she says.

A decimeter of snow

In an area just north of this, Värmland and western Västmanland are instead expected to receive snowfall which will later ease off during the day.

– Even if there is no warning, there is a big risk that it is really slippery if it rains on a snowy surface or ice, says Fougman.

Further north, however, there can be a lot of snow. The precipitation area that lies over the area has been dampened by some in central Norrland, you must be prepared for more snow.

– In Ångermanland and Jämtland, there can be upwards of a decimetre of snow, she says.

The weather warnings look to calm down until Saturday morning, when more stable weather is expected.
