Börje Salming will soon be honored with a tribute gala of his own.
Then some of Sweden’s biggest sports heroes gave beautiful gifts.
All to raise money for the late Börje Salming’s ALS foundation.
It was on November 24, 2022 that Swedish sports lost one of its biggest heroes and role models. Börje Salming became 71 years old and lost the battle against the nerve disease ALS.
Salming’s collection
Before his passing, Börje, together with his family, started his very own ALS foundation to support research in the hope of finding a cure for the disease.

In the past, large collections have been made for the Börje Salming ALS foundation in connection with the hockey icon’s illness becoming public. After his passing, the “Game for Börje” was also held in Gävle where millions of kroner were collected in connection with an exhibition match where several of Swedish hockey’s biggest players were on the ice.

The gifts of the icons
Now Salming will have its very own tribute gala when “An evening for Börje” is organized at Berns in Stockholm on April 26. The purpose of the event is to raise money for ALS research and several big sports profiles have now chosen to auction off valuables from their careers.
– There is currently no cure for ALS and only research can solve the mystery of the disease. Therefore, we are grateful for all contributions that can realize Börje Salming’s dream of stopping and curing ALS, says Karin Karlströminitiator and founder of the Börje Salming ALS foundation, to Sportbladet.

The hockey icons Peter Forsberg, Mats Sundin, Henrik Zetterberg auctions off signed hockey sticks, Nicklas Lidström and Markus Näslund signed match shirts, Ingemar Stenmark his classic retro hat, Jan-Ove Waldner an exhibition match along with Mikael AppelgrenBörje Salming’s own bicycle and much more are for sale on Tradera to raise money for ALS research.

In addition, unique match shirts from Kiruna AIF 1969 and Brynäs 1972 will be available for auction. The match shirts have been used during the filming of Viaplay’s TV series about Börje Salming.
