Daniel Alfredsson is a real icon in the Ottawa Senators.
However, he is not ready to step into the organization – and is investing in a completely different sport at the moment.
– That is my focus, he says.
Daniel Alfredsson is one of Sweden’s foremost hockey heroes of all time. The forward was consistently one of the entire NHL’s best scorers for over ten seasons, and achieved great success with Tre Kronor.
Mighty career
Alfredsson’s greatest merit was the Olympic gold in Turin in 2006, where he was a Tre Kronor’s most supporting player. He hit ten points in eight championship matches, and was really one who showed the way to the historic gold.
He played almost his entire NHL career in the Ottawa Senators, the majority of all seasons as captain, and has cult status with the Canadian organization. After his career, Alfredsson settled in the city, and a question that has always been on the agenda is whether the icon should possibly take a role in the Senators.
Recently, club owner Eugene Melnyk tragically passed away, and the local newspaper Ottawa Sun met Alfredsson about a potential co-ownership.
Investing in a new sport
On the other hand, it is something that the Swedish profile is nobbing – instead, Alfredsson focuses on something completely different.
– My focus right now is on the paddle and my children’s hockey, he says.
Daniel Alfredsson further says that he works to bring the new sport to the city.
– We have been inspired by the paddle’s progress back home in Sweden and this summer we have a collaboration with Rideau Sport Center, which has a mobile paddle court, to get more people to try and spread the sport further, says Alfredsson and continues:
– I have no doubt that this sport will take off. To the same point as Sweden? Maybe not. But in Sweden 8-10 years ago there were five courses and today there are over 5,000 courses.
