Ljungqvist was for a long time vice-chairman within WADA and since 2021 is a board member of the Anti-Doping Foundation in Sweden. Today he is 93 years old and has had to follow the new news reporting about Ludmila Engquist who now admits everything.

Someone who was close to Engquist during his career was precisely Arne Ljungqvist. He was deeply disappointed when Ludmila was caught for doping and they have not had any contact for 23 years.
“It’s terrible”
Until now, when both met for an intimate meeting during a documentary shoot.
– She betrayed me and she knew it. And that’s why she hasn’t made any contact with me. But now Ludmila wanted to talk to me, he tells Radiosporten.
– She was the one who wanted to talk to me, a short conversation and I said: “Sure, please”.

Ljungqvist appreciated the reunion with Engquist after all these years, long after the doping scandal that shook Swedish sports.
– It was nice to be able to do it, I know exactly what happened and she knows it too. It was an interesting conversation between two people, I thought it was interesting to hear about the old, he says in the interview.
These days, Ludmila Engquist has admitted that she deliberately doped herself to get caught and thus not have to go bobsled anymore.
– It’s terrible if that’s the case and I have no reason to question it. But it’s terrible. Now it seems that she has made up with the past quite well, I thought she seemed very balanced when I spoke to her and that pleased me, Arne Ljungqvist admits to the radio channel.
