A volcanic eruption occurred in the town of Grindavik, 40 kilometers away from the capital in Iceland. Lava began to engulf the houses in the fishing town, which turned into a place of apocalypse after the explosion. A large volcanic eruption occurred in Iceland about a month ago.
Iceland is experiencing hell: Flames engulfed the town! Critical warning from the Prime Minister: The situation is very serious
“THE SITUATION IS VERY SERIOUS”
Icelandic Prime Minister Katrín Jakobsdóttir said molten lava flows reaching the outskirts of a small fishing town were a “very serious situation.” Authorities said lava flows reached some homes in Grindavik, but the town had already been evacuated and no one was in danger.
LAVAS STARTED TO SWALLOW THE TOWN!
The Icelandic Meteorological Office (IMO) announced that a new eruption occurred yesterday at the Fagradalsfjall volcano and lava reached settlements in the city of Grandavik. IMO evacuated citizens in the city of Grandavik, stating that an eruption would occur at the Fagradalsfjall volcano in November 2023. Stating that there was no problem after the eruption in December, the authorities announced that due to a new eruption that occurred yesterday, fissures were formed in the volcano and lava reached the settlements in the city. IMO stated that the lava has created cracks in the defense barriers built in the north of Grandavik against the risk of eruption since November.
In its statement on the subject, IMO said: “There are two cracks just north of Grindavik; the larger one is in Hagafell, the smaller one is on the edge of the town. Lava flows from both fissures. The smaller crack, about 100 meters long, which opened around 12 noon today, is located just 200 meters from the Efrahopi neighborhood in Grindavik. “From here, lava flows to the city limits and causes serious damage there,” he said.
1 WORKER MISSED
Last Wednesday, a worker went missing in Grindavik while working to fill the cracks caused by earthquakes and volcanic activity. Police estimate that the missing worker fell into a huge crack in the road. There has been no news from the missing person since January 10. There is no eyewitness who witnessed him falling into one of the cracks in the road.
Search efforts had to be halted overnight on Thursday after landslides dropped tonnes of rock into the area. “We had to stop the search at midnight because we could not guarantee the safety of those working in the breach,” Southern Iceland Police Chief Ulfar Ludviksson said.
