Ice hockey: Winnipeg on historic list after eighth straight: “Feels pretty good”

– It feels pretty good. I think it’s important that we find different ways to win games. It’s nice to get these points early and hopefully we can continue like this, Winnipeg captain Adam Lowry told NHL.

Winnipeg is the ninth team in NHL history to win its opening eight games in a season. They are just two wins short of the all-time record shared by Toronto and Buffalo who won their opening 10 games in 1993 and 2006.

“A crazy match”

Scott Arniel, 62, is the first coach to win his first eight games with his club, also an NHL record. He was an assistant the last two seasons but this season was given the main responsibility.

– We try to take one match at a time and just put the one we just played behind us and always look ahead. You have to make sure you are ready every night. It was a crazy match that maybe didn’t suit us coaches, but the fans clearly appreciated it, says Arniel softly afterwards.

William Karlsson delivered both a goal and an assist for his Vegas as the team defeated visiting San Jose 7-3, the Swede’s first game of the season after a period of injury problems.
