Ice hockey: Tre Kronor may face rival Finland in the quarter-finals: “Is it a risk or a chance?”

Tre Kronor managed to secure the group victory with one game to go when they beat France last night.

– Very nice. To have done it with one game to go is very strong, says Hedman.

Ice Hockey World Cup

  • Despite the group victory – gloomy result in power play: “Hope we can make it to the end”

  • Erik Karlsson stepped forward and secured Sweden’s group victory

  • For Finland in the second group, the WC risks becoming a big fiasco. If Austria manage to beat Great Britain at lunchtime today, the Finns need to take points against Switzerland to progress to the quarter-finals.

If they fail, it will be the first time since 1955 that they have not finished in the top eight at a World Cup. If they succeed, Sweden awaits in the quarter-finals in Ostrava on Thursday.

“Would have been a lot of fun”

Despite the group victory, is there a risk that it will be arch-rival Finland in the quarter-finals?

    – Risk or chance? It depends on how you look at it. It would have been a lot of fun, says Victor Hedman.

If it doesn’t become Finland, it will be the upstart Austria that Tre Kronor is pitted against.

    – There is not much we can do about it. We will beat all the best in the end. When and how they come doesn’t really matter, says Erik Karlsson.

Sweden plays its last group stage match against Slovakia at 20.20 tonight. Finland-Switzerland is played at the same time.
