After two straight goalless games against Finland, the score was finally broken about halfway into the third period when San José forward Fabian Zetterlund fired a shot that went between the Swiss goalkeeper’s legs.
Then it was 0-0, something that was a little unbelievable when in the second period the Swiss superstar Nico Hischier had an open goal on a rebound – but somehow managed to hit the post instead of the net.
“A lot to work on”
Sweden eventually won the match, which was the team’s first in the Betano Hockey Games (formerly Czech Hockey Games), 2–1.
– We have a lot to work on. We end up a bit in between, says national team captain Sam Hallam to Viaplay.
Dahlin joins on Saturday
Several already WC-ready players from NHL clubs were missing against Switzerland.
Rasmus Dahlin, Lucas Raymond and André Burakovsky join Saturday’s match against the Czech Republic in Brno. A Czech Republic that fell against Finland.
– Then it will be even messier, there will be several new guys coming in. So we have some work to do, says Sam Hallam.
Full-back stars Erik Karlsson and Victor Hedman will be the first to arrive at the tough World Cup opener against the USA next Friday, May 10.
