Ice hockey: Tough home debut for HV71 – two players to hospital

The Jönköping team started the SHL season with a loss and two injured players against Växjö last Saturday. Tonight, HV71 suffered their second straight loss of the year when they lost 1-3 in the home opener against Skellefteå. Again, two players were injured – and taken to hospital.

Already after six minutes of play, a shot was directed into the face of 19-year-old Wilhelm Hallquist. Backen was left lying on the ice before he was helped out to the dressing room.

A minute later it was time again, HV’s Herman Hansson was tackled in the back behind Skellefteå’s goal cage. He was then seen on the bench with blood pouring from his nose. A few minutes later he disappeared into the dressing room.

HV’s coach Anton Blomqvist later stated to TV4 Play that both players were taken to hospital.

– It’s not good. They are in hospital. Wille lost some teeth, it looked pretty bad, says Blomqvist.
