Ice hockey: The women’s crowns overturned a three-goal deficit against Finland in the Euro Hockey Tour

The women’s crowns have had a really good start to the season.

Yesterday they won 4-1 against Switzerland, a victory which they followed up today with 7-5 against last season’s WC bronze medalists Finland.

  • Tapani scored 4–1

But it didn’t look like it would be a Swedish victory. Barely three minutes into the second period, former Linköping player Susanna Tapani made it 4–1 to Finland.

But then something happened. In the space of less than seven minutes, Sweden scored four goals, and suddenly led 5–4. Before the end of the period, they had also managed to make it 6-4, via Ebba Hedqvist.

    Rantala reduced

Early in the second period, Sweden also scored 7–4, and the victory seemed more or less assured.

However, Frölunda’s Sanni Rantala reduced the score with twelve minutes left to play and gave Finland a hold on the Swedes. Finland also pressed quite hard at the end of the match, but did not manage to outwit Ida Boman in the Swedish goal – who at times played very well.

    – I think this was a morale booster for the team, an incredibly well executed match! To come back from a 4-1 deficit against a very good Finnish team is, to say the least, super impressive, says SVT Sports expert Maria Rooth.

One player in Sweden was noted for two goals: Isabelle Leijonhielm, who started and finished the Swedish goalscoring. Two players accounted for three points: Wilma Sundin and Ebba Hedqvist. Both of these scored a goal and two assists.
