Ice hockey: Sweden ready for JVM semi-final – after dream period

The first period was a goalless one. But then it rattled.

First it was Edit Danielsson who pushed the puck in with a numerical advantage. Danielsson thus scored his fourth goal in the tournament, which means shared lead in the tournament’s shooting league.

– That shot is phenomenal, says SVT’s expert Maria Rooth about the goal that can be seen in the player above.

But it didn’t end there.

Sweden won the puck high up, Miranda Lindström found Linn Mattsson, who pushed directly to make it 2-0. Before the period was over, Ebba Hesselvall managed to make it 3–0, again a goal in numerical superiority.

– Now there is a tough period left in which we must fight and make sure that we win this match, says Hesselvall to SVT.

Said and done.

In the third period, Moa Johannesson poked in a rebound to make it 4–0 before an unfortunate Swedish pass gave Switzerland an open goal and a reduction.

A goal that was the last of the match. Sweden won 4–1.

The victory means that Sweden continues to play in the tournament, which takes place in Vantaa, Finland. Which team stands for the opposition in the semi-finals will be decided later, but most say that it will either be Canada or the USA.

– There are two good teams. But I think we have a good chance to beat both, says Edit Danielsson to SVT.
