There was a lot at stake when extra time was a fact after 1-1 in regular time.
A Rögle goal and the final series had been equalised, a Skellefteå goal instead meant that the team can now decide the series at home in two days.
Andreas Johnson became a major match hero with the decision twelve minutes into extra time. He had also scored 1-0 in the match earlier.
Olsson about the ruling
Anton Olsson, who assisted up to Johnson’s 2-1 goal, talks about the decision.
– It’s hard not to like him when he screams the way he does. He roared and really wanted it so I thought he has a good open goal. It was just a matter of putting it to him, he tells SVT Sport.
Johnson received treatment after the match and then did no interviews as he quickly left the arena to recover, according to Skellefteå’s press officer.
Disappointed Rögle
For Rögle, who looked strong in extra time, the home loss was difficult.
– It’s heavy. Our fourth period is our best. We push on, create chances and are aggressive. Then they have a chance that they take advantage of. They talk about small margins, but it really is, says Rögle’s Anton Bengtsson to SVT Sport.
Skellefteå’s last SM gold was in 2014, exactly ten years ago. On Monday, they can secure their fourth gold.
