Ice hockey: Sam Bennett pushed Florida a victory from the final: “Taught us a lot last year”

The Rangers had picked out goalkeeper Igor Shesterkin to get an equaliser. Bennett dug the puck into the center zone in a fight with Mika Zibanejad and feinted forward and was able to shoot into the empty box 3-1.

Zibanejad then found Alexis Lafreniere with a well-directed pass and he made it 3-2 with 50 seconds left. The Rangers brought out Shesterkin again but failed to create a chance and Florida made sure to keep the puck against the rim in one corner in the final seconds and time ran out.

A win from the second straight final

Florida has a chance to reach its second straight final and has fond memories of last year.

– It takes so much to get this far. We learned a lot last year and I think that helped a lot, says match winner Sam Bennett according to AP.

Now the series turns to Sunrise, Florida, for the sixth game on the night of Sunday where the home team can hit the game ball.

– There is nothing to say. We have our backs against the wall and must play our best game to survive another day, says Rangers captain Jacob Trouba.
