Ice hockey: Rögle took the third straight – Färjestad badly out

In match two, it was unnecessary expulsions that brought down Färjestad when Rögle won 3–0. In Ängelholm, the Karlstad team was whipped to win, but after all had not corrected the discipline.

After top scorer David Tomasek opened the scoring in the second period for Färjestad, who at that point led the game, they lost the lead after two expulsions.

First it was the captain Linus Johansson who, after having his helmet torn off, continued to play by holding onto a Rögle player. Rögle then needed only 13 seconds in the power play to equalize the match.

32 seconds later, another expulsion for Färjestad. And then Rodrigo Abols could give the home team the lead.

But Färjestad, in contrast to the first two games, would manage to get up. And that when Lucas Forsell slipped through the Rögle zone before he smashed the 2-2 into the roof of the net.

The match went to extra time, where it took a long time before a decision was reached. However, it wasn’t for lack of scoring chances. Both teams could have decided earlier, with Färjestad’s David Tomasek’s crossbar shot with seconds left in the fifth period being the closest.

After 108 minutes and 38 seconds, Michael Kapla fired a shot from the blue line that found its way into the goal. The match thus became the fourth longest match in an SM play-off.

– It was a mental game. You don’t want to do anything wrong. I am proud of our group that is fighting for six periods, says Michael Kapla to TV4 Play.

Rögle is now 3-0 in the match series against the regular season winner Färjestad and can now decide at home already on Wednesday.

– There is a long way to go, but it was an important victory, says Kapla to TV4 Play.
