Ice hockey player convicted of rape in Päijät-Häme district court Severi Lahtinen has appealed his sentence and the case will be transferred to the Court of Appeal. Lahtinen, 24, who represents JYP in Jyväskylä’s ice hockey SM league, was sentenced to two years of unconditional imprisonment at the court in early October.

The district court also obliged the puck player to pay the interested party 5,000 euros for mental suffering, among other things.

Lahtinen filed an appeal against his sentence with the court on October 31. The hockey player demands that his sentence be dismissed. The prosecutor of the case and the victim of the crime must file a possible counter-appeal by November 23.

The act took place in June 2022 in the victim’s apartment in Lahti. Lahtinen denied in the district court that he was guilty of a crime in the case.

After the rape conviction, JYP canceled the player’s contract, which was valid until spring 2025. Lahti’s breeding club is Lahti Pelicans.
