The last time Modo’s ladies were in the SC final was the 2013-2014 season when they fell in the final against Linköping.
But after ten long years, it’s time again.
Today they defeated Brynäs 2-0 away and after 3-1 in matches overall, they are now chasing the association’s second SM gold ever on the women’s side. The first came in 2012.
– We use a lot of people and have four good fives who can create all the time. With each match that has passed, Brynäs has become more tired and it showed today, says Lina Ljungblom, who the other day was awarded the Golden Helmet, the prize for SDHL’s best player.
The giants of the series meet in the final
From before, it is clear that the reigning champion Luleå has the second final place. They defeated Frölunda 3-0 in matches in their final series and also won the regular season ahead of Modo in second place. In other words, the series’ two best teams will meet in the SC final.
In Luleå there is plenty of final routine. The team has five straight SC golds and has won six of the last seven seasons.
– They are people just like us. We just have to be on and play good matches and it will go, says Lina Ljungblom.
Klimek hero: “I was lucky”
Canadian Victoria Klimek led the way in today’s final with her first playoff goals. Both came in the second period.
The first after a delicious solo performance, the second after a quick change. And in between, Wilma Sundin had missed a great opportunity for the Ångermanlanders.
– I was lucky a couple of times, Klimek told SVT after two periods.
But was it just luck? You seem to have a nose for the target.
– Lol. My teammates worked hard to get me the puck and I had missed two free throws already so those chances had to sit.
For Brynäs, who have lost three straight SC finals, the season is over.
– Modo is great, big congratulations to them. Three years in a row we haven’t managed to beat Luleå, so I hope Modo does it now, says Brynä’s coach Filip Eriksson.
