Ice hockey: Minnesota won decisive semi against Toronto – ready for first PWHL final: “Said we just have to win”

It was a sellout crowd of 8,501 at the Coliseum in Toronto, who saw Minnesota complete the turnaround from 0-2 in Game 5 of the semifinals of the new North American Women’s League that started just after the New Year.

– I think the second game was the big change for us. We played the right way and it started growing from there and then as we went on we just tried to take it one game at a time and told each other we just have to win today. The players did an incredible job and found a way to win, Minnesota coach Ken Klee told the PWHL.

Toronto thanks the fans

Minnesota forward Taylor Heise stepped up and scored twice, including the game-winner 2-1 midway through the third period. Minnesota’s last two goals came on empty nets in the closing minutes. Minnesota won for the first time after six straight road losses, while Toronto’s 11-game home streak snapped.

– It has been a fantastic season and the fans have been with us the whole time, even when it was tough. They supported us all the time and believed in us, which means a lot to us, says Toronto’s Blayre Turnbull who pays tribute to the fans.

In the final opponent Boston is the Swedish goalkeeper Emma Söderberg. The final series, also the best of five games, begins on the night of Monday in Boston.
