The legendary Czech hockey player Jaromir Jagr is giving up his majority stake in the centenarian HC Kladno club.
A Czech businessman Tomas Drastil is to take over 80 percent of the shares when Jaromir Jagr keeps 20 percent for himself.
The ownership change has not yet been officially confirmed. The club and its representatives will hold a press conference on January 30.
The new main owner Drastil wants to repair the club’s (bad) relations with the city and at the same time return HC Kladno, which won six championships, to its former glory.
In the last five main league seasons, HC Kladno has not reached the top ten in the Czech league and is currently 11th in the league.
The businessman initially confirmed his interest already at the end of November, when he stated that he had personally negotiated with the hockey legend.
The 44-year-old Drastil, known as an entrepreneur, is a partner in several companies that operate mainly in the United States. His 15 year old Simon-his son plays in North America in the Dallas Stars Elite series.
The 52-year-old Jagr has played 26 games in HC Kladno this season, where he collected 4+7=11 points. He is the club’s 9th most efficient player.
Last fall, Jagr was sidelined for a long time when it was reported that he was sick with both corona and whooping cough and suffered from breathing problems for a long time.
