Ice hockey: Jonas Andersson: “An SHL team met an Allsvenskan team”

Brynäs won the quarter-final against Nybro 4-0, the semi-final against BIK Karlskoga 4-1 and the final against Djurgården 4-0 after winning the regular season.

– It is class difference through and through. Brynäs has an SHL team and meets Allsvenskan teams. It’s not just how the team is on paper, but how they play as a team, they play sacrificially and a fast and straight passing game and they are worthy winners in the end, says Andersson.

What does it mean for the club and the city of Gävle?

– It means everything if you ask them. The difference if you back the band for a year is monumental and they have taken drastic measures: they have a good youth activity, a city that backs them and the business community so there is a lot that is really good.

Names Kelleher as his MVP

How can they be so superior?

– They have a good team on paper and a higher budget, but they have also got a structure in the game that I think is impressive. They turn the game in a completely different way than they did before. I’ll take this edition of Brynäs over last year’s team any day of the week.

Jonas Andersson names Tyler Kelleher as his MVP in Brynäs and has goalkeeper Damian Clara as a contender.

– Given that Brynäs did the right things, I think they can establish themselves as a stable SHL club even if they won’t challenge for the title for a few years. It will not be a jumbo team as it was before but will be in the SHL to stay
