Ice hockey: Jakub Dobes kept a clean sheet in his debut against the champion team – the first time since 1985

The last time a rookie goaltender kept a clean sheet against the reigning champions was when Daren Puppa did it for Buffalo against Edmonton on November 1, 1985.

– Hockey is unpredictable. You never know; you just have to show up, work hard, and that’s what happened. I am very happy with the result, says 23-year-old Dobes according to the NHL’s website.

Florida had won nine straight home games against Montreal, its last loss on the day six years ago, and for the first time since 2003 was shutout in two straight home games. Lost to Tampa Bay on Monday by the same numbers, 4-0.

– They played well, they played hard. We didn’t play a game where we reached our normal standard, says Florida coach Paul Maurice.
