Great attention was paid to defenseman Cam Fowler who, in his 1,000th NHL game, scored two goals for St. Louis at the baseball stadium Wrigley Field, which is normally used by the Chicago Cubs. 40,933 had found their way there.
– It is quite surreal. I’ve been going through a lot of emotions these past few weeks. Adapting to a new team. I couldn’t have asked for anything more than to experience this, Fowler told Fox 2 News.
It was just the 33-year-old Fowler’s ninth game with St. Louis after a long career with the Anaheim Ducks.
– It was a fantastic evening for all of us but will be more special because we won. That kind of victory fulfills all our desires, says Fowler to the NHL.
“Embarrassing to lose 6-2”
In statistics-mad North America, it is noted that Fowler became the first player to play his thousandth game outdoors.
There was great disappointment in Chicago to have lost and by such large numbers at that.
– It’s just embarrassing to lose 6-2 in such an environment at home. Our fans deserve better, says captain Nick Foligno.
