Maso Lehtonen, 36, who coached the Hämeenlinna Ball Club from the beginning of the season, continues his head coaching career in the Polish hockey league.
Ice hockey coach Matias “Maso” Lehtonen continues his working career in the Polish Premier League and at the helm of Zaglebie Sosnowiec.
Zaglebie Sosnowiec is 7th overall in the nine-team series and its home hall can hold 2545 spectators.
Sosnowiec had lost five of their last seven games, but won the last two. One Finn plays in the team, an attacker Jesperi Viikilä.
Lehtonen, originally from Tampere, coached Imatra Ketterä twice to Mestis champion and Rovaniemi Kieko twice in a row to bronze before two HPK league seasons, the latter of which ended in dismissals, when the Club, which was last in the series of the five opening games of the season, had lost four with a goal difference of 8–21.
On September 23, HPK announced that it had relieved Lehtonen of his duties and his name Mikko Mannerin as the league club’s new responsible coach for the rest of the season.
In the 2023–24 season, Lehtonen piloted HPK to 14th place in the series, i.e. second to last.
