ice cream melted in a cafe for thousands of kroner

What would have been café Söderbönan’s kick-off to the annual ice cream sale was close to ending in disaster – after a customer pulled the plug on the ice cream freezer – for 20,000 kroner.
– When I saw that the cord was pulled out, I got so angry. I had both horns, biceps, glowing eyes, a whipping tail and a trident, I think, says cafe owner May-Anita Brevik.

Just in time for school graduation, May-Anita Brevik, 65, who owns café Söderbönan in Mörbylånga in southern Öland, had prepared the ice cream freezer. But over 70 liters of ice cream became a mess and had to be thrown away after a customer had pulled the plug on the ice cream freezer to charge his computer.

The following day, May-Anita was greeted by a warm freezer.

– Ice cream bubbles and ferments so all the lids had fallen off, says May-Anita Brevik.

Collection of thousands of kroner

The intended start of ice cream sales could have ended there – if it weren’t for the district’s efforts. In a post on Instagram, the café owner told about the loss – and several name collections were started.

– The day before midsummer, a woman comes down who has been holding the collection with a roll with over 75 names, says May-Anita Brevik.

A total of SEK 13,500 was collected. That is more than the purchase price of the ice cream. The cafe owner is moved to tears by the efforts.

– I’m a little old lady who finds it difficult to accept help. It is truly indescribable.

The prompt: Don´t touch

– I have coined a new expression. Down like a pancake and up like a sun.

In the small café, there is now a wooden chest of drawers that blocks the electrical outlet.

– Now I have barricaded the electrical outlet. No one will be allowed to use the outlet. It’s just me. Don’t touch, says May-Anita and laughs.
