Food prices have risen sharply in recent years, and continued to increase even little in April. In one year, coffee has become 42 percent more expensive and the chocolate has risen by 31 percent, according to new figures from Statistics Sweden (Statistics Sweden). Other goods that have rushed in price are milk, cheese and eggs.
To match the chains with low prices, ICA Sweden started in 2024 a test with low -price stores.
First out was Ica Tunabackar in Uppsala, as News24 Previously rewritten. The store then lowered the price of 95 percent of all goods, and reduced the range sharply.
During the year, ICA Kvantum was also rebuilt in Helsingborg and ICA near the Kronhallen in Karlskoga, to the low -price alternatives ICA Söder and Ica Sandviken.
ICA’s low -price stores have a smaller range, simpler interior and signs large with offers.
It has been both top and bottom for ICA’s test stores. Sales at ICA Söder, which became a low -price store in June 2024, then increased by 9.1 percent.
ICA Supermarket Tunabackar closed operations in February this year, after sales have dropped by 2.7 percent in 2024, writes Gynliganytt!.
Ica Sandviken has only been open since September and had sales of SEK 13.5 million in the first year. The financial statements also show an operating loss of 2.2 million and an operating margin of -16.9 percent.
