Since the Supreme Court of the United States revoked the right to abortion on June 24, at least eight states have banned abortion. Consequences of these decisions: Videos are starting to appear on TikTok explaining to women how to perform a home abortion. But these alternatives can be dangerous to health.
After the great outpouring of solidarity that offered help to women wishing to have an abortion, more or less dangerous tricks have been proliferating on TikTok in recent days through fairly “clandestines”. To avoid arousing the suspicions of the platform, no specific hashtag has been created and tiktokers do not hesitate to use contradictory wording such as “Don’t take this, you risk miscarriage”. However, there are thousands of videos circulating sharing recipes or medicines to take to try not to have children. The research “diy abortion” is also growing strongly on Google.
Take medication for abortion
Taking a high dose of ibuprofen is the most common solution on the networks. Taking this painkiller during the first 20 weeks of pregnancy is known to cause miscarriages. This is why some tiktokers recommend taking 800mg of Ibuprofen per day as an alternative to abortion.
Taking cinnamon and two doses of Vitamin C (400 to 500 mg) for two days would be an alternative to the morning after pill. A less risky technique, but which has no effect on pregnancy. This is an old Russian method whose effectiveness has never been proven. You should also know that taking Vitamin C over the long term causes stomach pain, diarrhea and increases the risk of kidney stones.
dangerous recipes
It’s certain “Witchtok”, the community of witches of the social network, that decoctions that are supposed to cause miscarriage are presented. Herbal teas including pennyroyal, black cohosh, parsley, papaya seed, or mugwort are recommended. The hashtag herbalabortion (abortion by plants) has more than 780 million views on TikTok. However, taken in high doses, some of these plants can be fatal to humans. Especially since no medical evidence confirms the effectiveness of these products.
Some doctors warn about taking drugs or plants to facilitate a miscarriage, which is an extremely dangerous practice and strongly discouraged. The medical solution remains the safest. These techniques are unfortunately likely to develop more and more with the prohibition of the right to abortion, putting women in danger.
