Morton brings 25 years of experience in education and is a dedicated community leader, party officials said in a release. In 2022, he ran in the Stratford municipal election and built a campaign focused on delivering on the priorities of people in his community.

“Our provincial government must do more to hear and act on the concerns of the people of Perth–Wellington,” Morton said, “and I’m looking forward to working with the Ontario Greens to make sure that happens.”

“In this upcoming election, people in Perth–Wellington will face an important choice,” Ontario Greens’ leader Mike Schreiner said. “They will choose between Ian’s vision of a green, fairer future for the people and places we love, or a Ford government with a track record of abandoning rural communities.”

Morton is active in local politics and has served as chair of the City of Stratford’s energy and environment committee and as vice-chair of the active transportation advisory committee.

“I know that Stratford is an amazing city in so many ways, but we still have many significant issues for families and individuals that live here,” Morton said before the municipal election in 2022. “I have always served others through my career through volunteer opportunities and through my everyday actions. I want to have a council that cares about its citizens and is responsible to them. I want to pay back my privilege and serve others.”

Incumbent Perth-Wellington MPP Matthew Rae was already acclaimed last month for the Progressive Conservative Party. The next provincial election is slated for June 4, 2026, but there have been rumblings Premier Doug Ford could call one sooner.
