The actor was injured when he fell off stage during a fight scene at the Noël Coward Theatre during an adaptation of Shakespeare’s “Henry IV.” The 85-year-old veteran actor broke his wrist and suffered fractures to his vertebrae. Although it was reported that he was still in “unbearable pain” two months after the accident, the actor is reportedly making a “rapid and full recovery.”

In an interview with BBC Breakfast, McKellen got candid about his general health and the challenges of getting older. “I forget names… When you get older, you have more to remember than younger people,” he shared, adding, “It’s still frustrating when you can’t remember your best friend’s name or you’ve forgotten their phone number.” He also expressed his determination to continue his acting career, saying, “What else would I be doing if I wasn’t working? I’m going to take the rest of the year off and come back to work in January.”
