The Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant in southeastern Ukraine has been a danger since Russian troops occupied the plant more than a year ago in the ongoing war of invasion.
IAEA Director General Grossi said “no attacks against or from the agency must take place” when he addressed the UN Security Council in New York on Tuesday.
— The nuclear power plant in Zaporizhzhya must also not be used to store heavier weapons or be used as a base for these weapons, Grossi continued.
He stated that the ban applies to, among other things, military forces, tanks and launch pads, as well as ammunition among the things that must not be in the nuclear power plant.
The Zaporizhzhya plant used to supply about 20 percent of Ukraine’s electricity before the invasion. None of its six Soviet-made reactors are currently operating, but the plant is connected to Ukrainian electricity to provide, among other things, cooling of the reactors.
