Ingemar Stenmark takes part in the documentary series “Sagan Stenmark”.
And in the first part of three, he opens up about his feelings about his career as an alpine skier.

Somewhat reluctantly thanked Ingemar Stenmark yes to being part of the documentary series “Sagan Stenmark”. And in the first part of three, he meets his childhood friends while talking about how his interest in the alpine began.
“It’s scary”
But Ingemar Stenmark is not satisfied with everything that has happened over the years, neither how his career looked nor looking back on it.
– I think it’s quite scary that a documentary is being made, just sitting and talking about yourself doesn’t feel really comfortable. If and when I think back, I get nostalgic, those are feelings that I don’t like, he says according to Aftonbladet.

Ingemar’s younger brother, Janne Stenmark, works as a photographer and has previously had an interest in photographing and documenting Ingemar Stenmark’s matchless career. But the answer has been no.
– I’m happy that life turned out the way it did, I have a family now which is fantastic. At the same time, I wouldn’t want to go back and do the same things as a competitive skier. Now everything went well for me, but there are so few who succeed as well as me. Then you might think you have sacrificed too much, says Ingemar Stenmark according to the newspaper.

The family’s reaction
Stenmark was not the most talkative person, and he found everything that came with success difficult.
– As soon as you have opened your mouth and said a word, people have laughed. Even when I got into the World Cup circus when there were journalists and questions, it felt like if it’s going to be like this, I’d better go ahead.

Ingemar’s daughter Nathalie Stenmark however, is positive about the documentary as she believes that she does not know much about her father’s career.
– It’s a fun chance for me to know more about his entire career, what it was like when he competed. Although he has told us a lot, it hasn’t been like we’ve talked about it in depth, she says.
