“I would gladly skip that” – In the sports studio, Ilkka Herola’s fierce trick in Ruka’s bangs was amazing | Sport

I would gladly skip that In the sports studio

Ilkka Herola had to ski a good kilometer uphill at the Ruka World Cup with one pole. ‘s skiing expert Jussi Piirainen described the job as really heavy.

Ilkka Herola got into a tight spot in the joint start race of the combined world cup in Ruka. In a competition format that had already been criticized a lot in advance, Herola’s pole broke in the early stages before the first hill.

– There was an information outage during maintenance. I got a new pole on top of the hill. It was a long journey to ski the first ascent with one pole, Herola told Urheilu.

After that, the tank was empty. Even though the joint start race in Ruka is by nature aggravating, Herola finished in 30th place in the 10 km ski. The difference to the top was 53.4 seconds.

– Didn’t really go. I was pulling poles for that climb. It pretty much had legs, Herola stated.

It was very cold in Ruka on Sunday morning, around 17–18 degrees below zero. Herola complained on Saturday that Friday’s fierce skiing competition had taken a toll on her lungs.

I felt better on Sunday. For the hill section, Herola starts 13.4 points behind. Famously, things have happened to the top Finnish name in Ruka over the years. That’s why Herola is not very confident going into the hill race.

– Something always crashes here in Ruka. I always wait with excitement in the morning, what this time. I don’t know if the bad news of the day was already here or if there will be more from the hill, Herola reflected.

Urheilu’s skiing expert Jussi Piirainen there was sympathy for Herola in the Sports Studio.

– In this kind of freezing weather and in extremely slow conditions, skiing a good kilometer uphill with a pole would seem quite difficult for me, Piirainen himself admitted.

– I would gladly skip that job, Urheilustudio presenter Petra Manner continued.

Hirvina has recovery difficulties

Eero Hirvonen was sometimes at the top of the cross-country race and finished in the same pack as the others in 13th place. He finished 7.7 seconds behind the leader. When going uphill, the difference to the top is really small. Vincenzo Geiger gets to Suurmäki 1.9 points ahead of the Finn.

– Pretty insignificant seconds came at the end. I had a bad time on the hill. I couldn’t quite get into the suction of the tip hose. It was a bit crowded, Hirvonen said.

Hirvonen said that the preparation for Sunday’s competition was not the best possible.

– It was a short recovery time from yesterday. The brutality of the early season begins to weigh. At three o’clock in the morning, my body was sore. I mumbled a banana on the bed and wondered how to sleep. I was thinking that I wouldn’t be the freshest guy in the morning, Hirvonen stated and found the situation of the hill race puzzling.
