Maja was actually better at athletics than skiing as a youth, but chose a career in the tracks instead. Now she reveals who was her big idol as a child and it is a real giant in Swedish sports and athletics in particular – namely the heptathlete Carolina Klüft.
– She was so damn good! She was the best at everything and had a lot of fun. If she hadn’t been the way she was, people probably wouldn’t have noticed her in the same way either, Maja said in an old interview with Aftonbladet.
Maja Dahlqvist really looked up to Klüft as a child and wanted to be exactly like her role model.
“So you understand why you had boxes of newspaper clippings on Carolina Klüft and why she was the subject of everything you owned. And why you lived to be exactly like her,” she wrote on Twitter in February 2013.

That’s why it was so emotional when Dahlqvist won WC gold in the sprint relay in 2019 together with Stina Nilsson and received a special video greeting from the idol.
– Hi Maja. Big congratulations to you and Stina after your fantastic WC gold. It was incredibly exciting. You were cruel. And that riot that you did! We sat and watched, shouted and cheered and I cried when you won and you crossed the finish line. So damn impressive, said Klüft in a recorded greeting to the Swedish gold heroes.

Klüft’s words went straight to the heart of Maja, who was extremely touched.
– That’s cool! Powerful. She was my idol when I was little, so I’ve laughed at her a few times then, said Dahlqvist to the evening newspaper.
– It was very fun to receive this. It was great to receive this greeting.
